Punjab government to knock out dengue?

Punjab Health Director General (DG) Dr Aslam Chaudhry said on Monday that the implementation of a new strategy to eradicate dengue various had been started in Lahore on the directives of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The Health DG said according to the new strategy, anti-mosquito spraying, fogging and larviciding of one town per day would be done in Lahore and a schedule had already been issued. He said on August 22 Shalamar Town would be covered, on August 23 Data Gunjbakhsh Town, on August 24 Gulberg, on August 25 Samnabad, on August 26 Aziz Bhatti Town and
Cantt, on August 27 Nishtar Town, on August 28 Allama Iqbal Town and on August 29 Wahga Town would be sprayed. Ravi Town had already been covered on August 21.
Chaudhry said the Solid Waste Management Department staff would remove heaps of garbage from the respective towns one day before the sprays, while the Water and Sanitation Authority would be responsible for mending leakages in water pipes. He said spray and fogging would be carried out between 4.30am to 7am and between 7.30pm to 9pm in each town.
The Health DG said special squads for spray, fogging and larviciding had been formed and sufficient foggers, spray machines and pesticides/insecticides had been provided to them. Strict monitoring and supervision of the dengue eradication campaign would be done in each town and for this purpose the Punjab Health Department has nominated health directors as provincial monitors. Dr Akhtar Rashid Malik would monitor dengue eradication activities in Ravi Town, Dr Arshad Iqbal Daar and Dr Azhar Masood Bhatti in Data Gunjbakhsh Town, Dr Arshad Usmani in Samnabad, Dr Mubashar Ahmad Malik in Allama Iqbal Town, Dr Tanveer Ahmad in Nishtar Town, Dr Muhammad Zulfiqar and Dr Mehmood Ahmad in Gulberg, Dr Muhammad Naeem in Aziz Bhatti Town, Dr Muhammad Altaf in Shalamar Town, Dr Anwar Janjua and Dr Muhammad Razaq in Wahga Town and Dr Sabiha Khurshid would monitor the campaign in the cantonment areas.
