Lahore District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem on Monday dismissed an application filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Chaudhry Moonis Elahi requesting the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) land scam Investigation Officer Zafar Qureshi who ensured adjournment in hearing of an application filed by the accused for his acquittal.
Moonis had requested the court not to decide his acquittal application until Qureshi did not complete investigation and submit the complete challan of the case. He submitted that Qureshi had humiliated the court decorum by sending a fax message instead of appearing in person. He had requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Qureshi. The judge, dismissing Moonis’ application, held that the court had already issued directions to Qureshi to appear in person in the future and it was a constitutional right of the investigation officer to complete the investigation properly. The court also dismissed the post-arrest bail applications filed by co-accused Rizwan Bhatti and Muhammad Khalil.
