LCCI president outlines need for export competitiveness

The LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik while congratulating the Prime Minister on exceeding exports target, stressed the need for consistency in export related policies so that they could be enhanced further. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was planning to establish center for export competitiveness with an objective to give awareness to exporters about latest export enhancement methodologies. He said that the country was facing enormous challenges of varied nature. He was of the view that without over simplifying the complex nature of these problems, economic prosperity and development hold the answer to many of these problems today. He said that the shortage of energy is Pakistan’s number one problem today, hampering our industrial, economic and social growth. The LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik also spoke on issues of acute energy shortage, discrimination with Punjab in gas supply, deteriorating law & order situation, high markup rate and public sector enterprises. He said that energy was the engine of growth and government has to ensure availability of cheap energy for the industrial sector. He said that establishment of state-of-the-art Sheikhupura dry port by the LCCI would facilitate the importers and exporters who are earning much needed foreign exchange for the country. He said that dairy and livestock sector has great potential. According to him the government should improve the infrastructure in this regard so that dairy and livestock sector could play its due role to increase exports. He said that promotion of biotechnology was the need of the hour.
