Unscheduled load shedding in Ramadan persisted on Saturday in several parts of the city causing inconvenience to the citizens.
Electricity remained out at midnight for two to three hours in Township, Faisal Town, Garden Town, Walled City, Model Town and other areas of the city. The power went out at 1am and was restored at 4am. Javed Ahmed, a resident of Township, said that he could not sleep at night due to the power outage. He said that the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) officials were not concerned with the well being of people in the month of Ramadan. Another resident of Township named Muammar Khan said that the load shedding was causing mental stress to the people.
A housewife Sadaf Asghar said that due power outages, she had to use candles and emergency lights to prepare food for Sehr and that several housewives had to face inconvenience while preparing meals during Ramadan.
According to PEPCO, the shortfall of electricity has increased to 3,569MW with demand hovering at 18,480MW and generation remaining 14,911MW which is causing the company to resort to unscheduled load shedding.
