NUST entry test chokes traffic

Traffic remained blocked for hours on some roads of the city on Saturday morning because of improper traffic arrangements made for the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) entry test held at the Lahore BISE examination centre at Lawrence Road.
Citizens faced issues while commuting and complained that the university should have notified the citizens beforehand as the blockade was inconvenient for them. People had to use alternate routes to reach their desired destinations as the traffic remained blocked on Lawrence Road, The Mall, Waris Road and Ferozepur Road. A commuter named Waseem said that an entry test at the cost of civil disturbance was a common practice which should be discouraged. He added that the higher authorities should address this issue. A citizen named Inam said that even though Lahore was inconvenienced, the higher authorities did not bother as traffic jams had become a part of citizens’ routine. CTO Ahmad Mubeen said that traffic was not blocked but was slow because of a large number of cars parked on Lawrence Road due to the test. He said that traffic police was informed about the test and traffic mediation duties were assigned on the roads but a lack of parking space made the situation hard to manage.
