Status quo remains in Butt’s future as PCB chief

The service of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt remains in status quo till the expiry of his term and no decision as yet has been taken on his extension or removal from the board.
According to Presidency sources, President Asif Ali Zardari is so badly stuck-up in the political mess and other issues that he did not have time to think over the cricket affairs.
A source said that Ijaz Butt would complete his term and until then no one would remove him from the office. “He will complete his term as chairman of the PCB and there is no truth in reports that his term is being extended or he is being sent packing,” the source said.
There were reports that Ijaz Butt had resigned from his job and wanted to leave the PCB as soon as possible and there were also reports that he was manipulating to stay in power for another term. There were even reports that Ijaz Butt’s family members did not want him to ask for another term.
“It is premature to say that the things would change in the PCB. But we will do it when the time will come,” the Presidency source said.
When asked about the ICC’s condition of no government interference, he said the PCB chairman had the constitutional right to make changes in the law and come up to the Presidency for approval and it would be followed.
“There is a particular procedure in the constitution and the PCB chairman has the right to make required amendments and come to us for final approval,” the source said.
