Holy Prophet (PBUH) says, “O’ My people, you have rights over your wives and they have rights over you, you have the right that they should not defile your bed and that they should not behave immodestly, if they are guilty, God allows you to avoid intercourse with them and beat them without causing any serious injury.”
Islam has declared equal status for man and woman. But the society we live in greatly violates women rights. The issues relating to violence against women in Pakistan is usually dealt with by the Hadood Ordinance, which ironically sets different status for women and men.
This violence is greater in tribal areas. Women there are considered as slaves of their husbands and are supposed to do everything legal and illegal to make their husbands happy. But they are never appreciated. Their value is not more than an animal. The landlords take advantage of innocent girls who work for them.
Girls in almost all areas of the country are raped and many of them are killed every year due to the allegation of Karo Kari. The fear of accusation of Zina is the factor which discourages women from making accusation of rape. Moreover, police under the influence of landlords is reluctant to file the case against them. This is the real problem in Pakistan.
