The Sikh community under the banner of Inter-Religious Peace Council staged a protest demonstration outside Lahore Press Club here on Friday against sacrilege of their holy book in Udhampur (Morinda) Town in Ropar district of Indian Punjab. The protesters carried placards inscribed with slogans against the Indian government and its discriminatory policies towards minorities in India.
They burnt an Indian flag and chanted slogans against the Indian Punjab government for not arresting the accused who had desecrated the Guru Granth Sahib. The traffic remained suspended for quite some time during the protest. Reports said some unidentified miscreants had thrown five sacred saroops of the holy book in a well of Udhampur village and then poured alcohol over them on the evening of August 12.
