Nawaz perturbed by Karachi violence

Expressing concern over the situation in Karachi, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the security institutions should present their intelligence reports, analysis and recommendations to contain violence in the city before parliament.
In a press statement, Nawaz said elected representatives should evolve a strategy for saving the country’s economic lifeline from disaster and the government should be duty bound to implement the strategy. He said Karachi was not only the biggest city of Pakistan, but also its economic hub, which was being damaged since long. The PML-N chief said the situation had in Karachi had worsened to such an extent that the city was bleeding and its destruction could be disastrous for the entire country.
He said the Karachi issue was directly linked to national security, therefore it was necessary that national security institutions should take the parliament into confidence regarding their information, analysis and recommendations. Nawaz said the parliament should also be informed about the elements involved, their motives, contacts and their network. Nawaz said in the light of this briefing, elected representatives should evolve a strategy to rectify the situation and the government must implement the same.
Nawaz to leave for Umrah today: PML-N president Nawaz Sharif will set out for Saudi Arabia for a 10-day non-political tour on August 20 (today). He shall be accompanied by his family members and shall perform Umrah during his stay. Despite devastating political crises in the country, Nawaz Sharif will not change his traditional programme of spending the last ten days of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia.
