Former president and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) leader Pervez Musharraf has expressed grief over loss of lives in Jamrud suicide blast and urged political and military leadership to make a strategy ensuring end to the on-going wave of militancy and terrorism from Pakistan.
Talking to journalists in Dubai on Saturday, the former president said that elements involved in militant and terrorist activities have nothing to do with Islam and these elements were tarnishing the image of Islam as well as of Pakistan. He said that the region has not yet recovered from the consequences of 9/11 attacks on the US.
About possible NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan, he said that the government of President Hamid Karzai has neither regular military nor trained police force and the that (Afghan) government was also not capable to control law and order situation, therefore exit of allied forces would automatically cause its negative consequences at western border with Pakistan.
Musharraf elucidated that American internal crisis were putting severe effects on its foreign policy and the on-going challenges could create the situation like civil war after Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan. After Russian exit, Afghanistan became battle ground of warlords due to political vacuum and the same sort of situation could be emerged again after NATO forces exit due to political instability in Afghanistan, he said.
In the prevailing circumstances if allied forces left Afghanistan without establishing stable political system in the country, it would cause heightened incidents of militancy in the region as well, the former president said.
