Man killed, four injured in accidents

A man was killed while four others were injured in three different road accidents on Friday. Police said a 70-year-old man was killed when a recklessly-driven car ran over him near Wapda Hospital in Ichra Police precincts. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali.
The driver of the car fled from the crime scene, leaving the pedestrian lying in a pool of blood. Passers-by took the injured to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Separately, two people named Bilal, 22, and Saeed, 21, were injured when a speeding car hit their bike near Kalma Chowk.
Edhi officials took the injured to a hospital where their condition was said to be stable. In another accident, a man named Arshad, was injured when an auto rickshaw collided with his bike in Salamat Pura. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.
BODY FOUND: Rescue 1122 staff fished out a corpse from the River Ravi on Friday. The unidentified deceased was said to be a 30-year-old man. The rescue officials said locals had informed them after sighting the body floating in the river
GANG BUSTED: Six alleged members of a robbers’ gang were arrested from the Shahdara and Gulberg police precincts on Friday. Police said they had also seized a car, two motorbikes, gold ornaments, mobile phones, cash, illegal firearms and other valuables worth million of rupees.
The suspects were identified as Zafar alias Zafri, Basharat alias Shararti, Riaz alias Raju, Suhail Ahmed, Adnan Dani and Nawaz. A City Police (Operations) spokesman said four of the gang members named Mazhar, Afzaal Hussain, Salma Bibi and Tahira had already been arrested. He said the gang involved 23 men and three women. Meanwhile, the Lahore Investigation Police claimed on Friday to have busted at least 16 criminal gangs involved in various crimes.
They said they also apprehended 59 hardened criminals and recovered stolen property worth more than Rs 18 million during the month of August.
Runaway girl reunited with family: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) said on Friday it had handed over a 19-year-old runaway girl to her uncle and nabbed three people for carrying illegal firearms and ammunition.
The runaway girl named Saman Aslam told a PHP team in Sialkot that she had escaped from her house in Chakwal.
The team contacted her relatives and later handed her over to her uncle Zaigham Abbas. The PHP also arrested Shahid Mahmood and Ahmad Raza in Faisalabad and Mianwali respectively, for carrying illegal firearms and ammunition.
