Senior officials of the FATA Disaster Management Authority have initiated steps for the repatriation of the internally displaced persons (IDP’s) to Central Kurram Agency upon completion of the military action against militants there.
Chief of Army Staff General Pervez Kayani visited Central Kurram Agency on August 18 and announced that the military action, Koh-e-Sufaid, had been completed.
The officials claim that around 200 militants have killed in the military action while dozens of Taliban compounds have been destroyed.
The FATA disaster management authority director general told Pakistan Today on Saturday that more than 11,000 families from Central Kurram Agency had migrated to safer areas early in July. He said only 2,600 families were living in camps at Sadda and Thall whereas the remaining were living with relatives or in rented homes.
He said efforts to start the from August 25 were underway. “The returning families will be provided transport facilities along with food and other essential items,” he said, adding that in accordance with the directives of the president, each family would also receive Rs 25,000 as compensation.
However, the FATA DMA was yet to take steps for the repatriation and rehabilitation of those families who had abandoned homes due to sectarian unrest.
Thousands of Shia families from Upper Kurram Agency have abandoned homes and living like refugees at Peshawar, Islamabad, Kohat and other places.
