Seven relief camps for Thatta’s 16,300 rain-affectees

The number of rain-affected people in Thatta are around 16,300 and the provincial and district governments have established seven relief camps, where 400 bags of ration/food packets and 110 tents have been provided.
It was disclosed at a meeting to review relief operations for the people affected by recent heavy rains in three talukas of Thatta district, presided over by Thatta District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mohammad Jaffer Abbasi on Thursday.
According to an official handout, Land Utilisation deputy secretary and Sindh Board of Revenue’s Karamuddin Parhiyar also attended the meeting under the directives of Sindh chief minister.
Revenue District Officer (DO) Agha Shah Nawaz Babar and Information Technology executive district officer (EDO) Ali Ahmed Baloch also attended the meeting.
They informed the Thatta DCO that in three talukas of the district, Jati, Mirpur Bathoro and Sajawal, 3,256 families have been affected by rains while damages to standing crops inundated by rainwater are being assessed.
The Thatta DCO stressed upon the Irrigation Department officers to work on war footing to plug breaches and make extraordinary efforts to drain out rainwater from the submerged areas.
He urged the Revenue Department officials to work with total dedication and boost relief measures so that the families affected are compensated adequately.
