Students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) of Multan staged a protest on Friday calling for the immediate appointment of a vice chancellor. The university has been running without a vice chancellor for a long time now, which has put the future of thousands of students at stake.
The protesters said that the ongoing political tussle between Punjab’s governor and chief minister is jeopardizing the future of hundreds of thousands of students of Punjab’s three major universities, including BZU.
Moreover, they said that more than Rs2 billion of BZU’s budget has not been released yet and as a result most of the development projects have either been terminated or shelved.
The protestors said that exams are not being held as per schedule, as six departments are without their deans and several administrative posts are lying vacant.
The varsity has become a political ring for the two main political parties, they added.
