The Sindh High Court on Thursday adjourned the proceeding on the plea of leg spinner Danish Kaneria till Sep 27. The bowler had filed a case against ban upon him.
On Thursday, as the proceeding started the legal advisor of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Tafazzul Rizvi said that Danish Kaneria should present the inquiry report of Scotland yard regarding the matter. Kaneria’s lawyer Dr Farogh Naseem argued that the report could not be presented it was submitted in England’s court and if PCB could obtain the report, his client (Danish Kaneria) would have no objection.
Head of Division Bench Justice Gulzar told the legal Advisor of PCB that the PCB had lingered on the matter without any reason. Rizvi said the team was facing serious allegations of match and spot fixing and until Kaneria cleared himself, the board could allow him to play Cricket for the country. Justice Gulzar at that time told that players named in the report of Justice Malik Qayum report were later allowed to play cricket and also were awarded the superior posts in PCB.
This is the second time in two months that a senior player has gone to the Sindh High Court against the PCB. Shahid Afridi had also filed a petition against the PCB in June for not issuing him a NOC to play in England for Hampshire. Kaneria and fellow Essex bowler Mervyn Westfield were arrested last year on charges of spot-fixing during a Pro40 match against Durham.
Kaneria was later released without being charged but Westfield faces criminal proceedings. But sources said the PCB legal team was planning to inform the court about reports in the British press that Kaneria was still not cleared in the case.
