Dignity of labour

Once a leader was much grieved to see the stark poverty and unemployment in Pakistan but he attributed it to negligence and ignorance of the labouring classes themselves.

It is foolishness to condemn the labouring class simply because it does some work. Much of the richer class is also reaping the fruits of inheritance and does not have to work even half as hard as the common labourer for their keep. This invidious distinction of rank would be abolished if there is dignity of labour and people were to accord proper respect and recognition to the labouring classes.

Dignity of labour is necessary for a country like Pakistan. Here, the richer sections of the society imitate the colonial rulers and think that they should distinguish themselves from the labouring class by a show of wealth and threaten the labouring class comparatively lower section of the society.

These types of false distinctions in our society have resulted in maladjustments. This had led to the evils like that of bonded labour and exploitation. This relation between some and the other people in the society can never be conducive to a democratic spirit. In fact, democracy cannot work properly if there is any type of distinction in the society.
