Deadliest day in Karachi as 33 more killed

The government on Thursday vowed to carry out “clear action” in the city after 33 more people were killed in various parts of Pakistan’s financial hub since Wednesday midnight, bringing the death toll to 51 in the last two days. Around 21 bodies in gunny bags were found in just six hours in various parts of the city, suspending routine activities on Thursday. According to details, four bodies in gunny bags were dumped near Pankha Hotel area of Sher Shah, one body in Ghani Chorangi Shair Shah, three in 19/D area of Baldia Town, two in Lee Market, two in Soldier Bazaar, one in G-5 Baldia Town, two in X-3 Baldia Town, one in Maripur Road, one in Mango Peer while three bodies were found from Kakri Ground in Lyari.
These people had been abducted and later tortured to death. Two people were killed in Godhara Camp area of New Karachi, while one was killed in 89 area of Landhi and one in Sherpao Colony. Unidentified motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at an office of a political party in Ranchore Line and fled. However, no casualty was reported. A rocket was fired in Mir Alam Market of Baldia No 3 from an unknown location. The area of Jodria Bazaar and Boltan Market were gripped by fear as intense firing continued in the areas until the filing of the report. Dozens of the injured were taken to Civil and Jinnah hospitals from these areas. Aerial firing was also reported in various areas of Baldia Town. Miscreants also torched more than 43 motorcycles, 17 cars, seven buses, eight shops and 21 cabins in the last 24 hours. In another incident, five people, including two children of a family were mysteriously killed in the Maripur area. The bodies were taken to Civil Hospital. Talking to reporters at the Karachi airport, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said some miscreants did not like the alliance of the MQM and the PPP. “Terrorist will not be allowed to kill innocent people and the government will take stern action against the miscreants,” he said, adding, “It’s enough, now targeted operation will be conducted.”
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan said a high-level meeting on law and order had decided to take “clear action” against terrorists involved in the fresh wave of killings.
Addressing a press conference, the Sindh home minister said action would be taken against criminals irrespective of their political affiliations. He rejected claims that Urdu-speaking people had been killed in the incidents, adding that Baloch, Sindhis, Pashtuns, people from all ethnic backgrounds were being killed.
