Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has said that he keeps himself busy studying the weaknesses of batsmen.
He was talking to journalists during the camp training where on Thursday a special lecture was given on match and spot-fixing and corruption in the game. The camp started with one hour lecture on the issues that has haunted the game with match-fixing and spot-fixing and Pakistan’s name was linked to all the image tarnishing acts.
Ajmal, who joined the camp training on Wednesday after getting relieved from his country Sussex, said that he would like to maintain the performance that he had given in his maiden series in the country.
Beginning his talk on the performance, Ajmal said he would like to live upto his billing as a top bowler during the Zimbabwe tour.
“I believe as a senior member of the team it’s my responsibility to keep along the youngsters as there is no pressure on me now in the absence of Shahid Afridi and Abdur Rehman,” he added. Afridi has retired from international cricket while Rehman has been rested to give exposure to the youngsters and Mohammad Hafeez is a part timer. Ajmal feels that now more responsibility falls on his shoulders. “I need to take the youngsters along and take responsibility as a senior member of the team,” he added. On doosra, he said that although the batsmen has started to read the ball, he too have started to think on other means. As the batsmen have started to read doosra, Ajmal said the bowlers need to be more clever. “That was the issue of the past and I have now overcome the mistakes. I change the game plan according to the situation now and there will not be such a struggling phase anymore. The country cricket has come as a learning experience for me. I would say it was very useful time and I have enjoyed a lot there and would surely maintain the standard in Zimbabwe,” said he.
