Indian-occupied Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has opposed the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru’s death sentence. Guru was found guilty for carrying out the attack on the Indian parliament. Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Omar Abdullah said that all aspects must be considered before carrying out capital punishment.
“As Chief Minister, I cannot decide, but I have conveyed my apprehensions to New Delhi,” he said in his first public statement on the case after the Indian Home Ministry advised the Indian President to reject Guru’s mercy petition. He said Jammu and Kashmir was a sensitive territory, and hanging Guru could have consequences.
