Prepare for polls instead of long march, Kaira tells Nawaz

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Information Secretary and former federal minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Wednesday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif should focus on the next general elections instead of a long march. He said the PML-N should avoid politics of confrontation and concentrate on its election campaign.
Kaira told reporters at Allama Iqbal International Airport here before leaving for India that staging a long march was every party’s right but Nawaz Sharif should explain its cause to people if it was aimed ay toppling the government. He said the PPP government was looking for solutions to the problems being faced by the country while the PML-N was doing a politics of point scoring.
He advised Nawaz Sharif to “resolve problems within the PML-N and prepare for the next elections which are only a year and half away.” To a question, he said that deadlocks in alliances were a normal thing and democracy itself could resolve such issues.
Citing tense diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the US, Kaira said the PPP-led government always worked for the national interests and not those of the US.
