Saying that they had immediately replied to the explanation letters issued to them on Tuesday for attending an Iftar party at the American Consulate, the accused police officers registered a verbal protest against the recommendations of Punjab Inspector General of Police Javed Iqbal against them.
They said the IG cannot take an action against them without going through their replies.
Per details, the IG, taking serious notice of the news published in different newspapers and aired on different channels regarding the participation of DIG Training Arif Nawaz, Punjab Constabulary Deputy Commandant, DIG Khadim Hussain, SP VVIP Security Waqas Akram, SSP Elite Force, Major (r) Shahryar, SSP Headquarters, Major (r) Nasrullah, SP Headquarters, Rommel Akram and SSP Admin Tariq Abbas Qureshi in an Iftar dinner at the American Consulate, asked the Punjab government to ask the federation to take an action against the said officers. He said the officers had not replied to him properly when he had questioned them about it.
Director Public Relations Mrs Nabeela said the IGP had found the officers’ explanations unsatisfactory and had recommended a departmental action against them. She said that these officers were found guilty of violating the rules and regulations relating to the conduct of police officers, but as they were the employees of the federation, action against them could be taken at their end.
The alleged officers told Pakistan Today that they had given comprehensive replies to the IG on Wednesday after receiving their letters on Tuesday. They said the IG had not seen their letters and had filed a recommendation against them.
They said the dinner was not from the American Consulate but had been arranged by a regional security officer and was an introductory meeting with the newly appointed officers. They said the IG had resolved to punish them for no reason. Earlier, DIG Operations Ghulam Mehmood Dogar explained the position of SP headquarter Romail Akram and SP VVIP Security Waqas Akram in front of the media, claiming that the two officer attended the iftar dinner after taking permission from him so they had not violated the law.
Mrs Nabeela however said she was unaware of any verbal protests by the alleged officers.
