Rejecting the Supreme Court (SC) orders subordinating him to his junior, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Tehsin Anwar decided not to be part of the inquiry team investigating the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam and resigned on Wednesday.
A source close to Anwar told Pakistan Today that the FIA DG had sent his resignation to the Establishment Division and principal secretary to the prime minister, taking the position that he was the head of the FIA and therefore could not work under his subordinate, Additional DG Zafar Qureshi. However, the source said, the PM might relieve the FIA DG of his present position and give him another responsibility instead of accepting his resignation.
Sources also said Shah had resigned as part of a scheme to hoodwink the legal process. “Though the FIA DG has resigned, his resignation will remain pending and unaccepted, enabling him to stay away from the investigation process,” the sources said.
