The stalls selling bangles are mushrooming across the capital as buyers flock the markets for Eid shopping. These well-decorated stalls are easily visible in major shopping centres including Jinnah Super Market, Super Market, G-9 Markaz, G-10 Markaz and others. The traders are offering various items like garments and shoes but the stalls with colourful bangles are the most attractive of all. The markets are overcrowded after Iftar and females, especially young girls, are most excited to buy bangles which a give traditional touch to Eid shopping. Samina, a 10th class student, who was busy in selecting bangles, said, “Without bangles every event of happiness remains incomplete and we also have to buy it as a gift for relatives and friends.” The children with families are more focusing on toys and shoes with lights. “My little son has not allowed us to relax for the last whole week as he insisted to buy a remote-controlled car and boots with lights for Eid,” said Jawad, 40. As the Eid day is drawing near, many tailors, as usual, have stopped accepting further orders.
“A large number of people are our customers and we have to meet the deadline. We work day and night to complete the task but there is no more room for extra burden. And therefore, we are not accepting new orders,” said a tailor in Karachi Company, G-9 Markaz. Traditionally, the Aabpara Market and G-9 Markaz are the main centres for Eid shopping while many residents of Islamabad also opt for Rawalpindi. They says that prices of various products in Rawalpindi are not so high as in Islamabad.
