In an unprecedented move, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) on Tuesday announced exemption of rent on small businesses set up by blind and people inside parks being run under city government’s administration.
The announcement came from Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mohammad Hussain Syed while addressing a ceremony held at the Civic Centre’s Seminar Hall, jointly organised by the CDGK and the Karachi Airport Lions Club.
The ceremony was held for distribution of ration, clothes, sewing machines, weighing machines and French fries machines among blind persons, including members of Amigos Talking Library.
Speaking on the occasion, the DCO said people with disabilities are an important part of the society and joint efforts should be made to help solve their problems.
“The city government is taking all possible measures for providing facilities to people with disabilities,” he added.
“Blind people will be exempted from payment of rent if they install weighing machines or sell French fries and popcorns in any park under the city administration.”
Syed said it was good to see that blind persons had a desire to earn their living rather than be a burden on the society and called it a positive step by the Lions Club to provide rations among other things to the blind in the holy month of Ramazan.
