Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday tabled an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat against the national civil awards conferred upon various leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party.
It was argued in the motion that merit, ethical norms, past traditions and rules had been violated while giving the national awards to the PPP leaders or blue-eyed people of its leadership on the Independence Day.
President Zardari had announced civil awards for 185 people, including a number of prominent PPP leaders. The highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, was given only to PPP leaders or the president’s close associates, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Senate Chairman Niaz H Naek, National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and Salman Farooqi. Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Farzana Raja, Pakistan Baitul Mal Chairman and former PPP MNA Zamurrad Khan and, spokesman for the president, Farhatullah Babar, were also among the recipients of the civil awards.
Around 13 members of the National Assembly tabled the adjournment motion.
