Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday he would safeguard the rights of the people and would even launch a long march for the purpose if required.
Addressing a ceremony held to allot houses to recipients through transparent balloting in the first Aashiyana Housing Project at Soraba Atari on Tuesday, Nawaz said, “Promise made to the people on August 14 will be honoured and we will change the destiny of the people through collective efforts.”
He said time would come when Pakistan becomes a prosperous country and every effort would be made to achieve that goal. Nawaz said provision of shelter to the homeless was a big achievement for Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the project started by him for the poor would be extended. He said it was the responsibility of the state to safeguard the rights of the poor, adding that Shahbaz had started the Aashiyana Housing Scheme for the poor and thousands of people would own houses through the schemes by the next general elections. The Punjab chief minister said the PML-N had not only realised the dream of Nawaz by providing houses to the poor and widows under the project but also translated Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal’s vision into reality.
Shahbaz said work was expeditiously in progress on Aashiyana housing schemes in six other districts, adding that the project would be started in 18 other districts this year and the scope of the project would be extended to the entire province. He said the Aashiyana Housing Project was closely linked to August 14, adding that it was the most transparent and corruption-free project in the history of the country. He said the PML-N government had started revolutionary projects for the welfare and betterment of the people and the Aashiyana Housing Project was such a welfare scheme which had realised the dream of the common man.
