LSM production registers positive growth

Large scale manufacturing (LSM) has registered positive growth of 1.14 per cent during the fiscal year 2010-11 over last financial year, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The Provisional Quantum Index Numbers of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (QIM) stood at 208.25 points in July-June period of fiscal year 2010-11 as compared to 205.89 points in July-June 2009-10. The QIM has been computed in FBS on the basis of latest production data of 100 items received from sources, including Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC), Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) and Provincial Bureaus of Statistics (PBOS).
The provisional data provided by FBS showed that OCAC and PBOS monitored products showed negative growth of 2.27 per cent and 2.09 per cent respectively during the fiscal year under review while the MoIP index showed positive growth of 3.56 per cent. The LSM production in June 2011 declined by 2.95 per cent as compared to the production of the same month of last year. During June 2011 OCAC and MoIP indices showed positive growth of 6.44 per cent and 4.35 per cent respectively while the products monitored by PBOS witnessed negative growth of 12.66 per cent.
The petroleum products that contributed in positive growth in production in July-June (2010-11) include high speed diesel, production of which increased by 2.77 per cent. Similarly, the production of lubricating oil increased by 2.83 per cent and Solvant Naptha by 16.99 per cent. Other petroleum products witnessed negative growth in production during the year. The jet fuel oil production decreased by 12.41 per cent while production of kerosene oil decreased 16.52 per cent, motor spirits 7.52 per cent, diesel oil 41.31 per cent, furnace oil 3.05 per cent, jute batching oil 17.95 per cent and LPG production fell by 6.26 per cent. Among MoIP products, production of sugar, cigarettes, cotton yarn and cotton cloth increased by 32.64 per cent, 0.17 per cent, 5.46 per cent and 1.08 per cent respectively. Similarly the production of hessian increase by 5.39 per cent, paper board 2.12 per cent, phosphate fertilizer 3.73 per cent, jeeps and cars 9.8 per cent, LCVs 22.96 per cent while production of motor cycles increased by 17.88 per cent during the period under review. The MoIP products that witnessed negative growth during the period included Nit fertiliser, production of which decreased by 10.34 per cent. Similarly, production of glass plates decreased 15.87 per cent, cement 8.3 per cent, tractors 1.23 per cent, trucks 17.96 per cent and buses 21.97 per cent. In PBOS index, production of cooking oil increase 6.17 per cent while production of tea blended increased by 1.50 per cent, wheat and grain milling 8.57 per cent, upper leather 8.43 per cent, sole leather 84.91 per cent, footwear 17.13 per cent, tablets 3.95 per cent, liquids/syrups 14.82 per cent, ointments 7.78 per cent, toilet soaps 6.28 per cent, sugarcane machines 43.74 per cent, power looms 18.01 per cent, electric bulbs 6.65 per cent while the production of television sets increased by 28.50 per cent. On the other hand, the production of knitting wool decreased 6.90 per cent, cotton (ginned) 10.49 per cent, plywood 6.72 per cent, injections 25.14 per cent, cycle tyres 14.54 per cent, cycle tubes 10/66 per cent, diesel engineers 49.95 per cent, deepfreezers 56.91 per cent, air-conditioners 56.95 per cent, electric tubes 63.45 per cent, electric fans 10.22 per cent, electric motors 4.75 per cent, electric meters 13.30 per cent, switch gears 5.60 per cent while production of electric transformers decreased by 53.61 per cent, the figures revealed.
