The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decided on Tuesday to purchase 100,000 transparent ballot boxes for the next general elections.
The decision was taken in a meeting held here at the ECP Secretariat with Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Hamid Ali Mirza in the chair. All the four members of the newly constituted Election Commission participated in the meeting. The commission approved the procurement of new ballot boxes.
“ECP at present has over 300,000 ballot boxes and as such there was no immediate requirement for more boxes, however, the decision has been taken to keep more ballot boxes in reserve,” a senior ECP official told Pakistan Today.
The meeting opposed the idea of en bloc promotion of EC employees, observing that it would not be a wise move. The meeting observed that the promotions should be based on merit and the ACR grading and competence of the officers must be kept in view during the process. The Election Commission officials found the details of intra-party elections submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Freedom Party in conformity with the rules.
