Bids on to change name of Lawrence College

A strong lobby is working actively to change the name of Lawrence College Ghora Gali, Murree, Pakistan Today learnt from sources on Tuesday.
A source privy to the matter said the change of name was being sought on a pattern similar to changing the names of two Punjab districts Lyallpur and Montgomery to Faisalabad and Sahiwal respectively. β€œOr as the Lawrence Gardens in Lahore was renamed Bagh-e-Jinnah,” the source added. The Lawrence College is known as one of the elite educational institutions of the country for its glorious academic tradition.
It is a public college par excellence and is comparable to other elite institutions worldwide. It was established in 1860 and named after Sir Henry Lawrence. It is the oldest boarding institution of its kind in Pakistan. It was founded initially to provide education to orphans and the children of the British servicemen in India.
