A compilation of video clips of a famous new-age religious icon, Dr Aamir Liaqut, has hit the Facebook world and is spreading like a virus. The video contains behind-the-scenes moments of a religious program in which former State Minister for Religious Affairs Dr Aamir Liaqat is using foul language openly while ridiculing callers and making fun of statements made by Islamic scholars invited in the show. This video has received over 90,000 thousand clicks in less than a day and has been shared more than 60,000 times by different users on Facebook.
The compilation is almost 10 minutes long with different scenes from a famous TV program, ‘Alim Online’. In one behind-the-scenes moment, Dr Aamir first exchanges some explicit dialogues with the studio staff while laughing it away during the Sehri transmission and then asks the staff to watch him, as soon as the camera starts rolling Dr Aamir switches to a serious mode and starts discussing religion. In another scene Aamir starts mimicking an Indian actor and starts singing a song partially dancing in his seat during a recording and asks other staff members to follow him.
In one scene of the clip he bursts into laughter as one of the scholars starts to answer a very serious question of a caller. One clip of the compilation showed the host asking obnoxious questions from religious scholars like, “Do you watch Indian movies?”; and in one of the clips Dr Amir was shown singing songs to the Islamic scholars during a break.
Amir Liaqat, who has now shifted over to ARY, replied to the video calling it a fake. He claimed that a private channel where he had worked previously was behind such a move.
In the Sehri program on ARY he said that the video has been edited and dubbed with perfection. He said that such an activity could have been done by a channel only.
In the meanwhile the Internet is on fire with comments and communities against the Former State Minister of Religious Affairs. A community named ‘Bring down Aamir Liaqat’ has been formed on Facebook and is fast gaining popularity with almost 3,000 likes in less than 24 hours.
People belonging to different walks of life had commented on the video. Most of the internet had called this act of his hypocrisy, while Bilal Farooq Tarar a student of law commented “this guy is just like one of us”. Amna Batool a student of business said, “Everyone curses, so what that he does too.” She said that it was done off-air but the lesson is learnt that media agencies are dangerous weapons. In counter debate, Umair, a father-of-two, said, “But we don’t mix it up with sweet talking and lecturing others on Islam.” Hamza Ahmad, a Pakistani living abroad, said, “His shows should be immediately suspended and he should resign and leave the media world with whatever little grace and dignity he has left, if at all.”
Wasif Shabbir, a Pakistani residing in the US, thought differently. He said, “The sad thing is that none of the imams sitting there did anything about his behaviour, which to me is totally normal. He seems very dramatic and hypocritical any way. Cursing is pretty much part of our culture.”
Ayaz Abbasi, a business student, said, “I don’t know Amir Liaqat personally. I see him only for an hour. That’s when the program is aired, and I get to learn good things from the show; he’s a host! He presents nice, and that fulfills his duty, otherwise what kind of a man he is I don’t care.”

  1. Very well written Ali. Keep up the good work. As for 'The Doctor', dont know if he should be forgiven or not.

  2. Well, doc has done a ridiculous thing, AN ACTOR, who changes his colors in a min, using foul language & on the other hand teaching and telling us about ISLAM. isn't great?? but the saddest part is there's no one to ask him about his actions… which will be asked from all of us on the Judgement day… =(

  3. good job Ali!
but yeah to me several questions still revolve round my mind 'is it okay to just pretend to be religious?' Is this what is called hypocrisy?whats behind his hypocrisy- religion used as a tool to earn good living and popularity; or just spreading mere knowledge to others without even acting upon it? we dont know until we can know his intentions which none of us can know..that is Allah (SWT)'s act so i'd rather pick good things out of him and the rest is between his Allah n him!
