The Afaq Ahmed-led Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) alleged on Tuesday that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) plans to “restart the campaign for a separate Mohajir province again after the Eidul Fitr”, while the latter claims that the former is a disbanded party and no longer exists.
In a telephonic interview with Pakistan Today, MQM-H Vice Chairman Shamshad Ghauri alleged that the MQM is planning to start campaigning for Mohajir province in the metropolis and adjoining parts of interior Sindh. “Earlier, [MQM chief] Altaf Hussain launched a campaign for separate province when the MQM parted ways with the coalition government, but he later disowned the movement by giving it the name of ‘Karachi Lovers’,” he said.
“Our fear compelled Altaf to rejoin federal and provincial governments,” claimed Ghauri.
“The MQM will use the Mohajir province card for separation from governments after participation in the coalition set up. To save Mohajirs, Karachi and Pakistan, the Haqiqi will again come forward to fight against those who want violence and bloodshed in the metropolis,” he added.
Referring to MQM leader Waseem Akhtar’s statement that MQM-H only has countable number of workers, Ghauri asked how did Amir Khan and Nadeemul Islam joined the MQM with 1,000 and 450 workers, respectively. “One should not underestimate the strength of MQM-H,” he warned.
“The MQM-H is passing through a critical time, but good times will start shortly,” he said, hinting that the jailed party chief may be released soon.
However, a top MQM official, requesting anonymity, told Pakistan Today that no MQM-H exists as all its workers have left the party to join MQM after tendering their apology to MQM chief Altaf Hussain. “I will not comment on anything that does not exist,” he added.
