Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan on Monday called for a comprehensive approach for solving traffic problems across the province. In a meeting, Wasan urged Sindh Traffic Police’s Additional Inspector General (AIG) Mushtaq Shah and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khurram Gulzar to ensure smooth traffic flow in Karachi and other parts of the province. The home minister sought measures for preventing the overloading of the intercity bus services and ensuring mandatory provision of all relevant facilities to the commuters. He directed the AIG to identify all traffic intersections and sites where massive traffic jams are reported and result in routine clogging. The minister said that these sites must be notified followed by a comprehensive strategy to reduce the traffic rush. He also asked the officials concerned to approach the National Highway Authority and other similar agencies to widen the thoroughfares, construct flyovers, install traffic signals and depute traffic police in adequate numbers to man the traffic. The minister directed the AIG and DIG to ensure that traffic flow during Eidul Fitr is not disrupted due to massive mobility of people leaving for their hometowns to celebrate the occasion.
