The capital police have decided to display photos of notorious car thieves in various markets, shopping centres and plazas across the city so that the public may remain vigilant and assist police in curbing car thefts.
The decision to this effect was made in a meeting on Monday presided over by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tahir Alam Khan and attended by City SP Muhamamd Ilyas, Saddar SP Liaqat Ali, Industrial Area SP IshaqWarraich, SP Faisal Bashir Memon, sub-divisional police officers, DSP Anti-Car Lifting Cell Abdul Razaq, inspectors Bashir Ahmed Noon, Khalid Mehmud Awan and other police officials.
The SSP said Islamabad IGP Bani Amin Khan had categorically directed that car theft incidents in the city be curbed and any sluggish attitude in this regard was not to be tolerated. He directed police officials to maintain records of car thieves who had remained in jail and to keep monitoring their activities on a continuous basis. He also asked all SPs to introduce a system of strict accountability in the department to make policemen feel more responsible towards their professional duties and provide justice to citizens at their door steps.
The SSP said a strong accountability system within the department would help eradicate many evils and enhance the efficiency and performance of the organisation. He said a system based on reward and punishment helps a lot in improving the department’s efficiency and the Islamabad police had adopted it to encourage those who performed well and take strict action against sluggish officials. He also ordered to dispose of all pending cases and asked the officers to review the performance of their subordinates on various cases entrusted to them for investigation.
Tahir Alam Khan asked for starting an active campaign against professional beggars in the city and ensure their arrest. He said begging was a curse and those supporting the menace should be dealt with an iron hand. The SSP also demanded FIRs be registered against beggars instead of submitting Qalandra, so that this menace could be eradicated. He said the performance of police officials would be reviewed with regard to all these directions in the next meeting, which would to be held at the end of the week.
