After being left out of the Pakistan team for the Zimbabwe tour, fast-bowler Umar Gul has said he is focusing on returning to the national squad soon. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Mohsin Khan said Gul was rested, but it is being speculated that the fast bowler was overlooked on grounds of poor fitness and an unimpressive show in recent tournaments.
Gul insisted that temporary setbacks do come during a player’s international cricket career, and added he is confident about overcoming the setbacks with positive thinking. “I’m just working hard to get my place back in the national team,” Gul said. “I’ve increased my training and giving my best to regain the rhythm,” he added. The 27-year-old further said that he was targeting playing in the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka and England in the United Arab Emirates.
“I’ll feature in domestic tournaments to show my true worth. I’m hoping to put on a good show to impress the selectors,” Gul said. “Hopefully, I will get a chance for series against Sri Lanka and England,” he added.
