A senior official of the Pakistan Cricket Board believes that former Senator Enver Baig, who was sacked by his political party, is now trying to gain publicity by criticising the sports bodies. Enver Baig criticised the sports bodies particularly the PCB and its administration.
The PCB official said that it was unfortunate that Baig, who himself has been suspended on disciplinary grounds by the political party on whose ticket he was made a senator, is now trying to malign the sports bodies with his unsubstantiated arguments.
“Having no clue about sports administration he has chosen to use clichéd terms and is making personal attacks. He accepts himself that becoming member of the Senate Committee on Sports was ‘by default’. His criticism of personalities associated with various national sports for years is testament to his lack of knowledge about the history of Pakistan sports,” the official said.
He also asked: “What has Mr. Baig done to help Pakistani sports? Has he raised funds for any sports body? Has he used his good offices to fight for the return of international sports to Pakistan?”
He said that the PCB on one hand is facing a lot of controversies and trying its best to cope with these problems and on the other hand, the board has taken many steps for the promotion of the game across the country.
“The PCB has taken serious steps for putting Pakistan cricket back to the track. The board is trying hard to furnish the cricket players with best training and equipment so that Pakistan can produce top players.
“The PCB’s academies are in progress in all the regions where all the international level facilities are being provided to the players and new academies are also under process in Multan and Karachi which are fully-equipped. In recent days, the cricket board oragnised camps for the fast bowlers, openers, spin bowlers and middle order batsmen. The special and experienced trainers trained them and made them mentally and physically strong,” he said.
The PCB also announced that such camps will be oragisned throughout the year whenever the team will not have any assignment and it will provide the players opportunities to remove their mistakes under the able guidance of experienced coaches.
“Another important step the board is taking is to promote youngsters and is providing them chance to have international exposure. The board also gave stipends to new upcoming players Aizaz Cheema, Mohammad Talha, Zulfiqar Babar, Raza Hasan and Ayub Dogar which will encourage them to perform well.
“The board also awarded central contracts to 20 women players in four categories to promote and expand women cricket in Pakistan. This landmark decision has been lauded by cricketing circles as well,” he added.
“The U-16 Pepsi-PCB programme is also going on in which PCB is keen to hunt young and talented players and providing them opportunity to groom themselves and play at higher level,” he added.
