Belgian Kim Clijsters dropped to third in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday after the two-time defending US Open champion was forced out of the Toronto tournament last week with an abdominal strain. Russia’s Vera Zvonareva moved up to second just behind Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki, who went out in the first round in Toronto. American Serena Williams jumped 49 places to 31st after winning her second straight title at Toronto, and could be seeded for the US Open where she will target a 14th Grand Slam.
