Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Government College University (GCU), Punjab University (PU) and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) celebrated Independence Day on Sunday with zeal and enthusiasm. Flag-hoisting ceremonies in this regard were held at all campuses to renew the commitment to make Pakistan strong and prosperous.
At LCWU, a committee headed by Professor Sherein Asad organised the ceremony in which LCWU Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Farhat Saleemi, Registrar Dr Hamala S Khalid, Examinations Controller Riffat Saqlain, the deans of all faculties, administrative officers, employees and a large number of students participated. Special prayers for peace and prosperity in the country were made at the GCU.
VC Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman and academic heads hoisted the national flag in front of the GCU clock-tower. The PU also celebrated the 65th Independence Day by organising a flag hoisting ceremony outside the New Campus Admin Block. VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Registrar Dr Muhammad Akhtar, other administrative officers, heads of various faculties and departments, employees and students participated in the event.
UET also arranged a flag-hosting ceremony, attended by the VC and others faculty members.

The country’s 64th Independence Day was celebrated with simplicity and solemnity by all army formations and units of the Lahore Garrison on Sunday. An elaborate day-long programme, befitting the occasion, was chalked out for the historic occasion. Special prayers were offered for integrity, solidarity, progress and prosperity of Pakistan at all formations and unit mosques.
The day dawned with a 21 gun salute at Fortress Stadium, Lahore Cantt. Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at all Formation Headquarters and units of the Garrison in unison with national ceremony in Islamabad. The national flag was hoisted at Corps Headquarters, Lahore by Brigadier Samrez Salik. Message of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani was read out to troops in special gatherings.
An impressive guard mounting ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum in which smartly turned out contingent of the Pakistan Army took over the guard from Pakistan Rangers. Afterwards, Lahore Garrison Commander Major General Malik Zafar Iqbal laid a floral wreath at Iqbal’s mausoleum. Staff Report
