Six robbers, allegedly of Afghan origin, robbed Rs 3.6 million from an Allied Bank branch in Wapda Town here on Monday. They locked the bank staff in the locker room and injured the bank manager and a security guard, for offering resistance, before their escape from the crime scene. The robbery took place in the Saddar Police precincts.
Police said the robbers, who were said to be Pashto-speaking men, also took away the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras from the bank. The Wapda Town is a posh housing society of the city and has its private security system. It may be mentioned that a similar incident had occurred a few months ago in which a bank situated on the Sehikhupura Road was robbed. The six runaways of that stick-up too were said to be of the same ethnicity. An FIR has been lodged with the Saddar Police Station.
