Pleasant weather prevailed in the city on Sunday compelling the public to come out and enjoy the Independence Day. The Met Office warned that the River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala was likely to range between 50,000 to 70,000 cusecs low flood-level during August 16 to 17.
The Met Office informed that scattered rain and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls were expected in Punjab, Sindh and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) today (Monday) while scattered rain with thundershowers was expected in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Balochistan. The present monsoon spell would continue during the next two days in the said regions of the country.
Scattered rain with thundershowers hit Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Bahawalpur, Bannu, Malakand and AJK on Sunday. Around 41 millimetres of rain were recorded in Malamjabba, 20 in Thatta, 19 in Karachi, 11 in Khuzdar and Bannu, 10 in Mithi and 6 millimetres in Barkhan. Around 29 degrees Celsius was the maximum temperature recorded in the city on Independence Day while the minimum was 22.
The highest temperature was recorded in Nokkundi where the mercury reached 44 degrees Celsius. Around 92 percent humidity was recorded on Sunday morning in Lahore which decreased to 74 percent in the evening.
