Taking serious notice of two incidents of militants’ escape from police custody, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government banned on Monday the prisoners’ treatment outside the jails and suspended seven officials for the negligence.
Sources privy to the matter told Pakistan Today that KP Secretariat for Home and Tribal Affairs and Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) had issued letters to jail authorities to get no objection certificate for inmates’ treatment outside the jails.
The suspended officials included two policemen from Peshawar Police Lines, three officials of Peshawar Jail and two employees of hospital. The suspension of all these seven officials notified through separate notifications, issued by Capital City Police Chief and Inspector General Prison Department.
The suspended officials include the superintendent, deputy Superintendent and doctor at Peshawar Jail while a head constable was arrested soon after the escape of two militants.
The government has constituted an inquiry team to probe the matter and fix responsibility. KP Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti also warned the officials of stern action in case of similar incident.
The sources said that government banned nabbed militants’ treatment in hospitals and directed the jail officials to providing them health facilities to inside the jails. The jail officials have also been told maintain a liaison with the Capital City Police Officer concerned in this regard.
