Islamabad to have modern jail within two years

The Islamabad chief commissioner told a high-level meeting on Monday that 700 kanals of land had been earmarked for the construction of a jail in Islamabad, which would include a mosque, school and de-radicalisation centre. There would also be a proper area for women inmates and the jail would be constructed within two years.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik chaired a meeting at the ministry offices, which was attended by the Islamabad chief commissioner and inspector general of police (IGP). The minister directed that every sector should have one police station and a proposal would be put up by the chief commissioner in this regard within two weeks. The interior minister said Rs 700 million had been sanctioned for the jail in Islamabad and instead of acquiring land from the private sector, it should be acquired from CDA at Government rates. The interior minister instructed the authorities concerned to provide a modern structure for a jail in Islamabad inspired from the latest prisons around the world. The jail premises would also include a mosque, school and de-radicalisation centre besides a proper area for women inmates.
The minister directed IG Islamabad to select fresh blood for the post of SHOs and Additional SHOs. It was also directed that a community police centre was to be affiliated with each police station whereby the SHO was to keep a proper check on the area in relation to the record of its population, owners and tenants. It was also decided that no agreement of tenancy would come into force without the receipt of agreement being submitted to the concerned police station.
The minister further directed the Islamabad chief commissioner and IGP that all foreigners in the area should be surveyed and the record in this regard be updated. The minister further directed chief commissioner and IGP that profile of every house located in ICT be acquired from CDA along with ownership and tenancy documents. Unidentified property would also be identified. The minister for interior gave four weeks time to the chief commissioner and IGP to complete the task.
