CCPO claims crime rate has gone down

As result of a solid strategy and continuous efforts of the Lahore Police, the city’s crime rate has decreased, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir claimed on Sunday.
In order to establish his claim, Tahir said that according to facts and figures, during the last three months, the Lahore Police exterminated 230 criminal gangs involved in heinous crimes, arrested 754 hardened criminals while 1,338 cases were traced against them, including two cases of murder, one case of kidnapping for ransom, seven cases of robbery-cum-murder, 538 cases of robbery, 596 cases of theft and burglary and 194 miscellaneous cases.
Stolen property worth Rs 152 million was also recovered from the criminals, including more than Rs 13 million in cash, 106 cars, 235 motorcycles, 673 mobile phones, more than one kilogramme and 178 tola gold ornaments, five wagons, two pick-ups, 14 carry vans, three rickshaws, one Mazda truck and other valuables.
More than 10,500 proclaimed offenders and court absconders were also arrested, who were wanted in 215 cases of murder, 132 cases of attempt of murder, 695 cases of robbery, 646 cases of theft and 4,718 other cases. Around 4,192 court absconders were also arrested in this period.
The Lahore Police registered 1,545 cases and arrested 1,551 culprits during the campaign against illegal weapons and recovered 15 Kalashnikovs, 76 rifles, 345 guns, 1418 pistols, 128 revolvers, 20 carbine, nine mausers, 24 daggers, 206 magazines and more than 93,200 bullets. During action against drug peddlers, 3,168 culprits were arrested and 64 kilogrammes heroine, 457 kilogrammes hashish, nine kilogrammes opium, 255 kilogrammes of drugs, 234 intoxicating pills, 311 injections and 27,973 bottles of liquor were recovered from possession of the criminals.
Around 1,988 gamblers were arrested and Rs 2.8 million recovered from their possession. Tahir also directed the Lahore Police to take priority-based steps against drug peddling and elimination of other heinous crimes.
