Art students in the federal capital on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against a police raid on an art gallery in Lahore and the subsequent torture on the gallery’s female curator.
Per details, the female curator was allegedly beaten for “wearing sleeveless clothing and interacting with men” by Station House Officer (SHO) of Lahore’s Shadman police station August 2. The incident occurred at an art gallery owned by noted architect Nayyar Ali Dada.
Art students assembled at the National Press Club (NPC) and chanted slogans against police’s brutal behaviour. Expressing grave concern over growing extremism in the country, the protesters said security forces always misused authority to impose their conservative thoughts.
Amir, a student said the attack on the art gallery was an attack on cultural norms and had distorted the face of our heritage. The protesters demanded the government take serious action against the SHO and other policemen involved in the torture and harassment of women.
