Protests held against Nairang torture

Protests against police brutality at the Nairang Art Gallery were held at the Lahore Press Club, Karachi and Islamabad simultaneously on Saturday. It has been 11 days since the incident happened but the Punjab CM has not taken any action in this regard. The protesters were holding banners, chanted slogans against police and demanded immediate action against the accused.
Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had intervened in the matter but nothing has been done in this regard. People were also using social networking websites, including Facebook and Twitter, to condemn the incident. Users had created profile pictures carrying ‘stop police brutality’ slogans. On August 1, Shadman SHO Rana Zulfiqar had raided the Nairang Art Gallery to take action against sheesha consumption but on finding nothing, he tortured the gallery’s staff, including women.
