Zafar Qureshi may constitute new team to probe NICL scam

As the government is apparently creating hurdles in the investigation into the high-profile National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, the chief investigator, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi, seems determined to conclude the inquiry before he retires next month, with an option of constituting a new investigation team as the previous one had gone on leave en masse, a source in the FIA told Pakistan Today on Friday. Qureshi, who assumed the charge of his office on orders from the Supreme Court order, has been left with no option but to constitute a new team to proceed with the probe into the scam as the previous team members did not turn in the meeting he called on Thursday, the source said.
The team members even did not formally respond to the directions for holding the meeting, he said. He said Qureshi had again summoned a meeting of the team members at 11am today (Saturday) at the FIA Lahore Headquarters to discuss future strategy. However, the source added, as the chances of the team members’ presence in the meeting were minimum, Qureshi may think over constituting a new team to continue the probe as directed by the SC.
