Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General (ADG) Zafar Qureshi assumed charge of his office on Thursday on orders from the Supreme Court and officially asked four members of his team to hold a meeting with him on Friday (today).
Ironically, the four members of the team investigating the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, who assisted Qureshi during the investigation, are ‘on leave’ since the day the Supreme Court reinstated Qureshi as lead investigator in the high-profile graft case, said a source in the FIA. However, as soon as Qureshi took charge again, he asked FIA DG Tehseen Anwar Shah through a letter to ensure the presence of the team members in the meeting.
The source said Qureshi resumed his duties without any fresh notification from the Interior Ministry as it was not required after Supreme Court orders. Qureshi’s team consists of Crime Circle Deputy Director Syed Javed Hussain Shah, Anti-Corruption Circle Assistant Director Chaudhry Muhammad Ahmed; Anti-Corruption Circle Additional Director Khalid Anees and Commercial Banking Circle Inspector Chaudhry Sarwar.
The fresh move to bar the team members from interacting with Qureshi seems to have been made in collusion with those who wanted to stall the investigation into the case, in which Moonis Elahi, son of Senior Minister Pervaiz Elahi, is also a suspect.
