The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has stopped salary increments for 100 employees and is planning to transfer the saved funds to the Daanish Schools (DS), sources told Pakistan Today on Thursday.
PEF Chairman Raja Muhammad Anwer, being part of the DS, was already giving leverage to the schools. Sources said the PEF had announced 15 percent increment in its employees’ salaries but later refused to give the raise. An official of the foundation said of the 200 employees, only 100 were given increments and the rest working as subject specialists were ignored as the PEF chairman was diverting funds to the DS to please the Punjab chief minister.
He said the foundation received Rs 7 billion for 2011-12 and had started to collaborate on various projects of the DS recently. The two deputy managing directors (DMDs) of the foundation were being paid Rs 350,000 each while the former MD Mohyuddin Wani was receiving Rs 400,000, said sources. On the other hand, the subject specialists holding MSc and PhD degrees were getting only around Rs 45,000, they added.
“These highly qualified individuals are taken for granted and they are discriminated against within the foundation. They are not given leave encashment. Even the clerks in PEF are getting more salaries than the subject specialists,” said an official of PEF, adding that the foundation was planning to sack the subject specialists to save Rs 50 million and divert funds to the DS.Anwer was not available for comment.
PEF Managing Director Ambreen Raza denied the allegations and said all employees were given equal raises. “I do not think any of our employees have been denied a raise,” she added.
