New system keeping check on policemen: CCPO

The Lahore Police has introduced an effective system of reward and punishment, according to which policemen showing good results are being provided incentive and encouragement while those displaying laziness, corruption, lack of duty or irresponsibility are being dealt with strictly at the departmental level, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir said on Friday.
During hearing in his orderly room, the CCPO heard 44 appeals of policemen out of which appeals of three inspectors, two sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector, one head constable, nine constables and 24 traffic wardens were accepted while appeals of one inspector, two constables and one traffic warden were rejected. Tahir also announced waiver of punishment of constables and head constables from 2006 to 2011 during a grand dinner in honour of constables. Resultantly, 31 constables and head constables have been reinstated and a notification was issued in this regard.
Separately, Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (r) Mobin said that during Independence Day, all historic and recreational places would be put under surveillance to eliminate parking problems. He said that 13 DSPs, 124 inspectors and 2,035 wardens had been assigned duty on August 14. Mobin said that all major roads, including Ring Road, GT Road, The Mall, Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard and Canal Road will be patrolled by emergency squads. The CTO ordered a crackdown against one wheeling and asked parents to stop children from racing and one wheeling on main roads.
