Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Thursday allowed amendment in a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and registration of a high treason case against him for not implementing the judiciary’s orders. Allah Bakhsh Gondal filed the petition, through his counsel AK Dogar.
The petitioner requested the court to declare void Article 6(3) of the constitution, relating to trial for act of high treason to widen the scope of this provision to even let a layman file a case for high treason. On Thursday, the court pointed out to the petitioner that the said section only allowed the federal government to start a reference for high treason against a person.
If the petitioner intended to question the said section, he needed to amend the petition accordingly to give grounds for his request. The petitioner sought permission from court to amend the petition accordingly, which was granted after which hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
