Lahore District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem adjourned the hearing on Thursday of the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam against Moonis Elahi and others until August 13.
Earlier, the court partially heard the defence arguments on an application filed by Moonis seeking acquittal in the case. Moonis’ counsels Amjad Pervaiz Malik and Rai Basher argued that all the private prosecution witnesses did not record their statements before the banking offence special judge; they had only submitted blank papers with their thumb impressions to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) authorities, which were later used to prepare their statements to be presented to the magistrate.
The counsels said the FIA could net recover even a single rupee from Moonis during the investigations and physical remand and the court must acquit the accused, declaring him innocent. After hearing partial arguments from the defence side, the court adjourned the case till August 13. Separately, an accountability court rejected on Thursday an application filed by the spouse and children of Hamaish Khan, involved in the Bank of Punjab (BoP) scam, seeking court permission to meet the accused.
